Rosetrees Trust typically funds but does not limit itself to projects that are covered by the following categories:
- Seed corn funding for projects which funders like the Wellcome Trust and the MRC would want to take forwards to clinical benefit
- Financial support for promising young researchers such as PhD, post doc 1yr fellowships, PhD top ups, MBPhD and travel bursaries
- Practical research with potential for short term benefits
- Long term projects to solve illness that affects millions of people
- New imaging techniques to improve, monitor and speed up treatments
If your outstanding project does not fall within these categories but requires funding please still apply via the E-Application form or contact us.
You can make an application for funding at any point although some of the awards such as fellowships, studentships and other prizes are made once or twice a year in conjunction with other institutions. For the timescales and deadlines to be met for a specific scheme, please refer to the detailed information about that specific scheme in the Additional Rosetrees Grants tab or contact us.
Rosetrees typically makes awards for the duration of 1, 2 or 3 years in the region of £5,000 to £30,000 a year but projects for smaller and larger sums are accepted and will be judged on their merits.
When received, an application will be subject to the Rosetrees normal selection procedure and will be considered in competition with other similar type applications.
The normal selection procedure involves internal assessment and then independent peer review. Finally an application is subject to a final decision by the Rosetrees investment committee.
If you submit an application and either you are ineligible to be an applicant or the subject of your proposal does not fall within Rosetrees remit, Rosetrees reserves the right not to process your application. Rosetrees willingness to consider the application in no way implies that support will be forthcoming.
Depending on when you submit your application, it can take up to four months to process, although Rosetrees generally processes applications in a shorter time period.
Rosetrees does accept applications for funding for projects that have already commenced but please bear in mind the time period set out above for processing applications.
If there are any ties on intellectual property rights or publications arising from the research you undertake, please contact the Rosetrees Trust for advice. Restrictions on intellectual property may affect your eligibility to apply to the Rosetrees Trust.
Please note that Rosetrees Travel Bursaries are not for the costs of attending conferences. Rosetrees will accept applications for UK researchers requiring a short period of time in a lab/institution in a different country to further their current research.
